Turman Engineered Timbers Engineered timbers are boards that are pressed and glued together under a regulated pressure rating until they bond as one solid piece of wood, or a laminate log. This multi-layered log is stronger and more stable than a traditional solid log.Due to moisture content, solid logs run the risk of settling. Although millers strive to eliminate this by properly stacking and dry kilning lumber, there is still a chance that settling will occur. Before an engineered log is produced, we make sure the lumber has moisture content below 12%. This extra care ensures that your laminated log will have the tightest possible bond, and it also minimizes twisting, cracking, checking, and shrinkage. Where the logs are fully kiln dried, they are also more resistant to decay because it is below the 19% fungi threshold. The glue bond between the lumber is stronger than the wood itself and is also waterproof. The bond is virtually impossible to break, and the adhesive is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The unique drip edge that is designed into each log profile provides extra protection against water entering between log courses. Quality control for Turman Log Homes engineered logs is governed by strict SPIB guidelines. A laminate log is stronger and less subject to wear and tear by time and the elements. This added value keeps maintenance costs at bay, saving you money. Here are a few other advantages to building with Turman Log Home engineered timbers:
